Hello everyone! This pick of the month is a little different from our usual songs because it's not from Hong Kong or HK entertainment. We picked Katherine Ho's mandarin cover of the song "Yellow" from Coldplay. We both saw the movie in theatres and it was a pleasant surprise. It had everything: the comedy, the grandeur, the family struggles and the romance. Having read the book beforehand, we thought they did an amazing job capturing the author's themes. Like many articles and interviews that have already said it, this movie was pivotal in representing an Asian cast on screen in a Hollywood feature film. The casting was perfect and it showed how Asian people could portray a variety of characters - not just the nerds or Chinese restaurant owners where superheros barge into lol. We know the entire Asian community wanted this film to be well received because it opens so many doors for us. There was a lot of pressure and many people likened it to The Black Panther...

Hi everyone! Following from last month's Pick of the month, we have two songs we'd like to introduce this month. The first song is from Dear Jane which is a band we particularly like in Cantopop these days. Recently, we feel that they've ditched the old harder rock feeling for more modern instruments and beats. Their ability to express their feelings across is still evident. Our favourite songs from them are still the 3 part story of 哪裡只得我共你, 只知感覺失了蹤, and 經過一些秋與冬. This is because they were able to tell a full love story from meeting to breaking up to getting over each other through songs. This left listeners anticipating for the next song to finish the story. This song isn't as 'full' in its story telling and is a little repetitive. Their new style reminds us of modern pop and while it shows that canto can be used for upbeat songs, hopefully the storytelling is still great as they continue! Hello everyone! We're back with this month's new songs that we thought stood out. They came from Jason Chan and Phil Lam.  We will talk about Jason's song first as it came out earlier in time for Father's Day.  We liked the easy going guitar on this song that he wrote for his baby daughter. It's got a light tune to it but the meaning is great. We've been listening to Jason for a long time and his voice is always easy to listen to and light on the ears. Reading the description, the title of this song is because his daughter is a  無限大 (infinitely large)  part of his life now. When we heard the song, we thought it would be about the world being  無限大 and he will protect and teach her about the world. The lyrics basically talk about what he hopes to experience with her, like holding hands to school, riding a tricycle, etc. All very sweet moments!  The MV is beautiful and shows off Hong Kong beautifully as well. Hello everyone, After taking our second break from the Pick of the Month, we're back for some fresh new songs in the cantopop industry. We've got 2 songs we liked this month and we'll be talking about both of them to make up for the missed month of April. The first one is by AGA 江海迦 and the song's name is《小問題》. We usually like AGA's songs and especially admire her for doing the songwriting as well as the singing. Her demos are usually done in English and then she works with a lyricist to come up with Chinese lyrics to her songs. They work out pretty well actually but this song has some fast singing parts that we're sure would be hard for her to sing live. In her past performances, they've been quite weak and she's not able to re-produce the same sound from her recordings even if it looks like she's trying really hard. With the end of the month, we are here with this March's Pick of the Month, which is Robynn & Kendy's new song, 《未來紀念館》. The first time we heard this song, we loved the 80's style instrumentals which was at the same time very refreshing compared to the current boring cantopop songs. We couldn't help to loop it a couple times because of its positive vibes that just lifts your spirits! The message behind the lyrics matched with the upbeat tune is inspirational and bright. We also wanted to mention that we love the ending with the credits with the black and white photos of the two singers which is a nice, clean touch to end the song. We feel that the duo Robynn and Kendy are quite underrated, which is unfortunate because they aren't bad at all! Their older song, 《Shout n' Cry 》was pretty catchy as well! Hello there! With the end of January approaching fast, we have selected a new Pick of the Month. This time, we have Jay Chou's newest single 等你下課 sung with Gary Yang chosen. We love the simplicity of this song which paints a story of a high school boy waiting around and wishing to be noticed by the girl he likes. The lyrics are very straightforward and doesn't contain the same poetic feel that we get from some older Jay songs, but is effective in conveying the honest and uncomplicated emotions of this school boy in love with a girl. The only criticism we have would be the instrumentals in the middle of the song which are a bit awkward, giving an unnecessary extra Asian cultural texture to the song. The lyric video accompanying the song uses a series of animations to create the scenes of this cute, bittersweet story, and we think it is the perfect touch to the song. Happy New Year to all! We've had a great year in 2017, and we hope we will have more time to produce some more posts in 2018. We know we have been a bit slow on the posts, so we hope to get some more drama reviews out the coming new year. Moving onto the Pick of the Month we have selected, today we are introducing JW's (王灝兒) "I Just Wanna Stay With You". We started liking some of JW's songs since her single "矛盾一生". We are happy to see that she has her own concert which will take place on January 6th 2018 at the Hong Kong Coliseum. This song is the theme song for her Never Too Early 2018 concert. We like the new EDM style music that she's put out, since it's definitely not seen often in Hong Kong music, but it's very fitting to try out something new for the New Year, and it works well overall. Heyo! It's another end of the month (crazy, right?), and today, we are introducing two new releases from Voice Ent. singer, Kayee Tam (譚嘉儀).  In context of Kayee's recent role in the drama, The Exorcist Meter , these two songs seem to reflect the childish innocence of her character as a doll.  The first song is "小堡壘", which is a story about how this girl found her small "fortress" in which she feels like a princess after meeting someone, and how she is forced to let go of this place, since her lover has already left, and it no longer represents the same thing. The MV takes place at an amusement park with Kayee reliving the memories of her and a man who is no longer with her. Happy Halloween!!!!! We are introducing another song today by J.Arie. To be frank, there weren't any new songs that really stood out to us this month. This was the song that was better than a lot of the new releases. This is the first time we have introduced J.Arie on our song posts because we only listen one or two songs from her. The intro is a bit weird - it kind of gives off an eerie feel (which is suitable for Halloween haha), but the chorus sounds better and makes it easy to get into the song. Then after the chorus is sung once, the music becomes weird again...but she did compose it herself, so that deserves credit. Overall, the song doesn't flow together too well, but the chorus is like the normal HK pop. The music video is unnecessary and doesn't do anything to enhance the music. Also, we're not digging J.Arie's hair which also looks unbrushed. There's also randomly a girl who dances in the video which doesn't really make sense to us. We sugges...

Wow, it's hard to believe that it's already the end of September, and autumn is already here!  This month, the song that stood out most to us is C AllStar's 此刻無價. If you have been following our Pick of the Month posts, you would know that we have consistently recommended C AllStar songs. They are a wonderful music group in the HK music industry known for their distinctive use of harmonization in their songs.  Right when the intro of the song began to play, we were already drawn into the comfort and calmness of the guitar. C AllStar's voices continue to bring this soothing feeling right until the end of the song. We like how this song strays from the overused topic of love and heartbreak, and instead, it focuses on the friendships that will last people a lifetime and the memories created with these people. Happy August to everyone! First of all, we have been busy redesigning our blog, so we have been slow on getting posts out. We hope you all like the new look of our blog. We also would like to apologize for the advertisements that appear on the site, as they come with the picture slider we are using and we cannot get rid of them. We will be looking for alternative sliders without ads; in the meantime, we hope that they won't hinder your experience at CeeJay's.  Secondly, we want to introduce our August Pick of the Month which is Phil Lam's 有淚多好. It's been released in iTunes and other music platforms in July, but the official music video came out on August 8th on YouTube. This is our first time introducing one of Phil's songs, but we have always enjoyed his songs since his release of 高山低谷, a hit that greatly boosted his popularity. It's crazy how fast time passes! It felt like yesterday when we published our first CeeJay's Pick of the Month post, but that was actually last June! We got a few requests to feature Vincent Wong and Kayee Tam's duet rendition of Lowell Lo's 陪著你走 for June. We previously did a review on My Unfair Lady  (不懂撒嬌的女人) theme songs and already talked about Kayee's version of the song which was the sub-theme for the drama. Because Vincent's character, Saving, sang this song to the Cherry, played by Natalie Tong, fans have been swooning over these romantic scenes and requesting him to release an official recording of the song. Although, a solo version was not released by Vincent, he did collaborate with Kayee to sing a duet after the drama aired. We think that Vincent has a pleasant voice that complements the song very well and we are glad he got to sing a good portion of the song. Kayee's part is the same as her sub-theme, which is comforting and warm. There...
