Hello everyone!!

Today we are bringing back some song reviews after taking a break for a while. There is no theme song for Law Disorder, but there is a sub-theme and an ending theme. The theme song music is basically like the ending theme instrumental though. We don't think having Hubert's song as a theme song or an ending theme makes any different in this case, actually sometimes we find it a little weird that there is no theme song since there has always been songs for TVB dramas and for us it has only been in recent years where we haven't heard songs. A side note on this drama, we have just seen one episode but we are excited to continue! We were wondering why Mandy Wong was in like none of the Youtube trailer promotions and why she was barely in the beginning clip before the ep starts... she is not really the lead in this one and it looks like TVB is pushing for Ali to be the main lead.

Anyways, the ending theme is 公義的抉擇 - by Hubert Wu, 胡鴻鈞. It is another conventional TVB theme song but more fast paced and in some parts, we think it sounds like the News Broadcast music. The sub-theme is Can You See - by Kayee Tam, 譚嘉儀. We like both of them and especially Kayee's song because it is very different and comfortable to listen to.

Starting off with Hubert's
We have noticed that Hubert has been getting a lot of songs this year. Although we did push for hearing more of him last year since he is the better singer out of Alfred and Jinny (who sang the most last year), we would still like to see some more variety. This year, Fred has only sang one song from what we recall and we wouldn't mind hearing more of him. Anyways, although Hubert is a good singer, we need variety. There are still a couple dramas coming out this year so they better NOT be Alfred, Jinny, or Hubert but we know The Best Theme Song winner is going to be given to one of these 3.

This song has an alright tune but it is not outstanding and we find it a little short. Actually, it is a little typical and repetitive as well. Hubert sings the 我信的... part three times and there is no bridge in this song either, so that's just really sloppy. The lyrics make sense and stuff for the context of the drama so we don't understand why it wasn't the theme song. This song is good, it fits the drama, Hubert sang it alright but it just isn't WOW. We just don't really have a comment on this song.

Next is Kayee's song, Can You See.

The first few strums of the guitar brought us right into the feeling of the song. Then we heard her voice and it immediately reminded us of slow ballads from the 1980's with a mix of indie pop from present day. The last English song from tvb was also a sub-theme (The Only One from Blue Veins) but we like the guitar with this song a bit better. We hope that this song plays a bit more often unlike last time where Kay just sang it and we never got to hear Stephanie sing it. Anyways, this song has a nice melody and it even prompts us to sway a little bit with the rhythm. Not many new songs are able to get us moving these days. We enjoy the simple lyrics as well. Sometimes it is a little repetitive but not like the ending theme above. Because this was written by Wayne James, the lyrics all make sense because we remember hearing songs from some Chinese lyricists and they didn't quite make sense to us lol.

For Kayee's singing in this song, we really feel like she improved. Some people said that she doesn't sound like herself and yes we agree in some parts but that's probably because of the editing. This song is also said to be too soft by some commenters but we think it's a nice balance to the faster song for the ending theme. Overall she has great pronunciation and her voice fits this song very well. Her last song 扯線木偶 was not as good in our opinion. It was a bit flat and some parts sounded like talking. We are so happy this song didn't turn out like that. Our personal pet peeve for singing is loud, frequent breathing but we did not have an issue with that here.
Here are the lyrics below the video and we hope you guys enjoy this song too.

譚嘉儀 Kayee - Can You See (劇集 "律政強人" 插曲)

Wayne James

Can you see
Light in my eyes
Like a child waiting for Christmas
The stars in the sky
Watch as I sigh
Can you see what they see?

Look at the trees
They're swaying
They feel the touch of the breeze
They overheard
My whispered words
Can you hear what I'm saying?

Maybe I am only dreaming
So what if I'm wrong?
It can't be that long
Before you stop
And feel what I'm feeling
The stars and trees will always be
As I love you so
Can you see?

Look at the clouds
They're waking
Stretch in the warmth of the sun
They watch us and smile
And linger a while
Can you see the hearts they're making?

Maybe I am only dreaming
So what if I'm wrong
It can’t be that long
Before you look
And feel what I'm feeling
The sun and clouds will always be
As I love you so
Can you see?

Maybe I am only dreaming
So what if I'm wrong
It can't be that long
Before you stop
And feel what I'm feeling
Like all these things will always be
Yes, I love you, so
Can you see?

Let us know what you think of these two songs and the drama as well!!

  1. Hi CeeJay!

    Thanks for another informative post!

Personally, I'm more interested in the drama than the songs (it's been that way for many years actually -- in my mind, TVB is incapable of making theme/sub-theme songs now the way they used to back in the 80s and 90s). I haven't actually started watching the drama yet but I definitely intend to, since I'm a huge fan of Uncle Chi (Liu Kai Chi). My mom started watching it already though and she said so far, the series reminds her of HKTV's The Election (ok, she basically said that from the few episodes she's seen so far, she feels this series is a 'repackaged' version of The Election). Of course, I am not the least bit surprised, since this series' scriptwriter is the same one who wrote The Election (seems like he wrote Uncle Chi's character very similar as well, since my mom said his character KC is pretty much Song Man San reincarnated, lol).

There is also some discussion on the internet too that Law Dis-order is essentially the 'season 2' of The Election that never got made due to HKTV not getting a license. Perhaps that's true, though I'll have to judge for myself once I actually watch the series. However I will say that as someone who supported HKTV back then, it does kind of tick me off that TVB is now reaping the benefits of having annihilated what might have been their strongest competitor in recent years. I know the scriptwriter Benny Wong had already written most of the season 2 script for The Election back then so it could very well be that he used some of that content for this series.

I've been super busy lately so will probably only start watching the series this weekend...will definitely comment more once I get the chance to watch.

  2. Hey llwy12, great to hear from you again!!

We agree that we're more into the drama than the songs however, for now we can only write about the songs and later do a review (if we have time lol). We didn't watch The Election, and only saw The Borderline with Liu Kai Chi so we aren't too sure if it's a sequel. So far we have only seen two episodes and they have been good. We don't have any background information on the topics that they covered like IPO's for companies that want to get on the stock market so we were a little confused. We are liking Alex Fong in this drama so far, he is not boring like he was in A Great Way to Care and there's no need to mention Liu Kai Chi's performance because it has been great so far.

Let us know your thoughts when you watch the drama!! Looking forward to hear what you have to say for this.

  4. lol pls la. Bring in HKTV for what? The election i dont even watch it bored like hell and borderline got watched abit only. This law disorder Alex fong is the main deal with his superb lawyer acting. And the rest of tvb actors are astonishing as well!

  5. @ fancy house. Thanks for checking it out! This song is very soothing and like Olivia Ong but we feel that Olivia is even a tad softer than Kayee.

@ Accord 2018. Alex Fong has been a great surprise in this drama. The acting has been awesome as well, definitely something different from previous dramas. HKTV was just brought in because of Liu Kai Chi haha, how do you think he is in Law Disorder?

  6. both theme songs are good to listen.
i like they use music only to start the drama.
other than that, i like the background music used throughout the series.

  7. @ Cee Jay Hi, finally found an English blog that discusses TVB dramas. I have been dying to discuss the recent dramas but most have been in Chinese

Anyways, I find Law & Disorder an overall fast paced and good series. Liu Kai Chi's character was certainly someone that you'd love to hate. Alex Fong was surprisingly wonderful as well. Pretty much reminds me of Suits whereby the story revolves around solicitors and closers that deals with cases out of court.

But the ending was a slight dissapointment. Seems like the writers ran out of plot at the end or steam at the end. Have not watched The Election so can't compare to that but this is much closer to Suits I would say as you even have the secretary character thrown in.

  8. Hello Anonymous!

We are so glad to have more people talking about TVB dramas with us in English. It has been increasingly difficult these past few years with the decline of popularity and viewers for TVB. Not many seem interested in talking about it anymore.

We do agree that LD was a lot like Suits. For all the corporate law elements, the office politics with being partners and all. But also the similarity with characters. Nick in this drama reminds us of Mike Ross in Suits because they are both rookie lawyers with powerful memories.

We do agree that the ending was lackluster because we found that a lot of ends weren't tied. It was left too open with hopes for a sequel. We are not going to be reviewing this drama but our main concerns with the end are: KC is still out and about rising in the government (this is probably what happens in real life as in people get away with things but we would have liked it if he got in jail or something), we also thought that Duncan hated KC and wanted to overthrow him at one point but it just never happened and he is just his little "dog" after many years, Hazel just suddenly became a great lawyer and chairman and we would have liked to see her grow within the drama instead of the last two minutes, Nick and Libby had some story... but then their relationship just never played out in the end so it really looks like the scriptwriter wanted to stay away from romances LOL. While this was a very entertaining drama, we would have liked it to be tied together better haha. Are you watching any of the current broadcasting dramas?
