Line Walker: The Prelude - 使徒行者2 TVB Theme Songs Review

Hello! 

Hope you are all excited for the approaching anniversary drama season of TVB, since it seems like many big productions (including this one) are coming out soon for the 50th anniversay!

Today we will be reviewing the theme songs for the new TVB series, Line Walker: The Prelude (LW2), which is the second installment to Line Walker, a considerably successful TVB show of 2014. We have watched 5 episodes of this new show already, and we are loving the fast-pace and contrast of characters! It seems really promising right now, so we hope they won't mess up the middle or the ending (though it seems like a habitual thing in TVB dramas). 

The main theme song is called 天網 and is sung by Pakho Chau, who recently joined The Voice Entertainment Group, after leaving Warner Music Group. It seems pretty obvious that Voice Ent. is boosting Pakho to the "yat gor" position, especially with Alfred Hui gone. It's also surprising that Pakho is playing such a big role in this series, considering the fact that he hasn't really been on TVB shows except for A Time of Love 2. 

The song is alright, but not the best we have heard from Pakho. We expected the main theme to be something a bit faster and more explosive to complement the action scenes, like Line Walker's theme song 行者 sung by Justin Lo and Wilfred Lau. But then again, Pakho isn't known for fast songs. The song is pretty short, and it only contains 2 verses and a chorus sung twice. No bridging again. The issue we have with the song is when we listen to it, it doesn't scream Line Walker to us like a good theme song should. 

The quality of the MV is unlike usual Voice Ent. ones. IT ACTUALLY CONTAINS A STORYLINE. You can tell this was shot with a much bigger budget. They even shot a mini movie for it, with a bunch of TVB actors, car chases, explosions, etc. Watching the mini movie, we were a bit confused at the beginning of whether of not these clips came from LW2, since Pakho and Kenny Wong have the same names in the MV and in LW2. But it seems like they shot these scenes just for the song, which is impressive and surprising for Voice Ent. once again.

The second song is a sub-theme called 忘記我自己 by HANA, who is another fairly new singer of Voice Ent., possibly put in place of Jinny Ng. The song is thankfully less annoying than Jinny's  Hopefully, they won't overplay this in the show like they did with , because it honestly got pretty irritating, but we are also pretty sure this is going to happen because it's the only way Voice Ent. songs get more publicity... We think it is a mediocre song; there's nothing too special about it, but of course, we will get brainwashed once it keeps replaying in the drama. 

The MV is a little bit better than usual Voice Ent. ones, but still follows that same formula of the singer standing and lip syncing in different backgrounds. Because HANA's the only person in this video, she could work on her expressions to make the video more interesting, because although she does have some more expression near the end, she looked a bit wooden while lip syncing at the beginning.

The last song is another sub-theme by Vivian Koo (谷微 ), who, if you don't know her, won second place in TVB's singing competition, 超级巨声4, and is a singer of Voice Ent. as well. The song is called 安守本份 and we are pretty sure it's actually been released before with an MV in the Voice Ent. channel, but for some reason, now it's removed. Maybe they will release again once it shows up in the drama? Vivian usually sings and speaks in Mandarin, and this is the first time we've heard her sing in Cantonese. Her Cantonese is pretty good in here, and overall, this is not a bad song - though a bit repetitive with the chorus. We are just more used to Vivian singing Mandarin, so it'll probably be better with more listens. We would like to listen to more of the Cantonese songs in the future as well.

UPDATE: The music video for Vivian's song just got re-released.
