The Defected 鐵探 - TVB Songs Review

Hello everyone!

It's been so long since we've posted and written a review! Nice to be writing again especially since we have kinda drifted from the blog and from watching TVB dramas. There were none that were memorable and we have also been crazy busy with our own lives. 

We did enjoy I Bet Your Pardon but didn't bother with Ghetto Fabulous Lady since it looked kinda stale. 

However, we are back with a song review post for The Defected and it's also a drama that we are watching currently!! 

First up is the theme song sung by Fred Cheng. 

This is pretty standard Fred and we don't see anything new particularly. The melody isn't really outstanding, it might be after we brainwash ourselves a little bit haha. Lyrics wise, it's very fitting for the drama and sounds more like it's aimed at Benjamin Yuen's character. Most of the chorus is singing about how if you had understood me, had gone through the same mistakes and hardships as me, we can start again... Which speaks a lot to Ben's character being shot in the head and having the stand back up after that and take his revenge. It could also apply to Kara Hui's character as a strong, ambitious madam who lost her son. Nobody understands her and nobody empathizes with her character, but if someone was there for her then she could go back start again. Not too sure, we are reading too much into it as it's probably just a general scramble of words put together.

We would think that for such a big budget production, TVB wouldn't use their own Voice Ent. singers... but of course they did. It would really be nice to see some other singers and other styles for the drama soundtracks (if you can call it one). We have discontinued our Monthly discovery's for music because there just wasn't enough music coming out in Hong Kong! Probably the same reason why they aren't using other singers, because there is just a shortage of talent writing the music.

The ending theme song is sung by none other than the queen of TVB theme songs for the past year. 

We're really tempted to just say, no comment. She has sung so many theme songs now that we don't know which one is which and they are all about the same. She's got a nice, deeper voice than other HK female singers on the market right now so that's a plus. While we aren't particularly attached to the song right now, the lyrics aren't bad. It hasn't been played a lot besides in the ending when the credits roll in.

The sub-theme song is sung by Jinny Ng of course... what is a TVB intense, highly promoted cop show without a good brainwashing of a Jinny Ng song at every heartbreaking/romantic moment? For now it seems reserved for Matt Yeung/Sisley Choi's storyline. But we will have to watch more of the drama to see where it goes. It's a mediocre song and we don't really have any comment on it. 

There are comments saying how this is funny because one of her hit singles back in 2013 was 'I Learned' here, and now it's 'I remember'. It's kinda the same style and flow so it sounds like it was inspired by that. The songwriter and lyricist are also the same for both songs.

不可以將 過去刪改  可改變未來
