TVB Anniversary Awards 2025 Review 丨萬千星輝頒獎典禮 2025 TVB 回顧

Happy New Year to all of you! We wish you much happiness and health in 2026.

With each new year, TVB celebrates the hard work and achievements of their staff, artistes, and team during the annual TVB Anniversary Awards presentation. This year, the TVB Awards Presentation 2025 show was held on Sunday, January 4th, 2026 at 8:00pm HKT at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau for the third consecutive year. Don't forget to check out the red carpet looks at the end of this post!

Overall Thoughts

This year, the show was hosted by four emcees: Luk Ho Ming, Roxanne Ho,  Leonard Cheng, and Stephanie Che. This is a welcome change from the one person emcee culture for the awards show which was started a few years ago.  The different hosts made the show less boring, and Edmond Hui continued to provide narration and background information for the nominees and winners. Notably, the four of Malaysia's awards were taken out. This included Malaysia's Favorite Variety Show and Information Program, Malaysia's Favorite TVB Drama, Malaysia's Favorite TVB Actor, and Malaysia's Favorite TVB Actress awards were missing. The theme for this night show was "貪新不忘舊", translating to welcoming the new but also not forgetting about the old. The show was all about celebrating the milestones of people who have been with the company many years, while passing the torch to the new generation. The vast majority of the red carpet looks were black gowns and suits, with white being the second most popular choice. The biggest winner of the night was The Queen of News 2, taking home 9 of the award titles, not counting the Most Improved and Newcomer titles. If we include James Ng (Kwan Gor) and Carmen Ngai in the count due to their participation in this series, The Queen of News 2, would have swept 11 awards. Charmaine Sheh broke her own record, becoming TVB's first ever 4-time Best Actress. The second biggest winner was A Date with Goddess, taking 3 awards home if we include Best Male Host, Bob Lam. Keeping with the theme, the show began with a video that uses AI to merge old and new TVB scenes together to start the spectacular night. 

Award Winners

Best Female Newcomer 最佳女新人: Carmen Ngai (倪嘉雯)

We were quite happy with the first win of the night for Carmen. She has participated in several variety shows as well as drama productions throughout her few years at TVB, especially being a part of the J2/TVB Plus team as well as hosting the children's shows: Kids, Think Big 《Think Big天地》 and 《Hands Up》. This year, she had a supporting role in The Queen of News 2《新闻女王2》as a news anchor in Open Platform. We are glad to see she has shown improvement in a short amount of time at TVB.

Best Male Newcomer 最佳男新人: Mason Fung (馮皓揚), Kevin Liu (劉洋)

Mason participated in two year-end dramas this year, Heroes in White《俠醫》and The Queen of Castle 《巨塔之后》, where he played a supporting role. He also was a host of the travel show on TVB Plus called Overnighters《獨嘉瞓過界指南》which was a fun variety show we enjoyed this year. Mason was the recipient of the 40th Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor in 2022 for Zero to Hero《媽媽的神奇小子》.  Only 21 years old, he has the potential to go far in his acting career.

We were confused by Kevin Liu also winning. He is a great singer and gained popularity thorough Midlife, Sing & Shine 3!《中年好聲音 3》, but this is his first year in the company and he has not made many contributions other than a guest appearance of Come Home Love: Lo And Behold《爱·回家之开心速递》. We found the double winner to be unnecessary.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role 最佳女配角: Venus Wong (王敏奕) - The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

This award was presented by Patricia Ha and Eddie Cheung. Mimi Kung seemed to be the popular choice for this title as she garnered lots of positive reviews for her roles in The Queen of News 2 and in The Fading Gold. Even though we enjoyed Mimi Kung's acting more, we are not surprised by this win because Venus is younger and can take on leading roles in the future. This season of the show, we noticed that she also had a lot more screen-time than the first season. It was interesting how the Best Supporting awards were announced at different times because the Best Supporting Actor was given almost near the end of the show.

Greater Bay Area's Favorite TVB Variety Show and Information Program 大灣區最喜愛TVB綜藝及資訊節目: A Date with Goddess《女神配對計劃》

All the Greater Bay Area awards were presented by Pakho Chau and Raymond Wong. We really enjoyed this reality show this year which was one of TVB's first dating shows. J2 did have a dating show a few years ago, but this one was aired on the main TVB platform, becoming one of the most talked about variety productions this year. It turned out that the audience could become really invested in the "goddesses'" dating lives, and the netizens were very vocal about which male candidates were better in their opinion. We enjoyed seeing how the 5 actresses handled relationships differently. We are looking forward to a second season of this series when they make it.

Greater Bay Area's Favorite TVB Drama Series 大灣區最喜愛TVB劇集: The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

The Queen of News 2 secured this win expectedly, and this signified many other awards for the drama coming later in the night. The collaboration with Youku allowed audiences from the Greater Bay Area to enjoy the series. 

Greater Bay Area's Favorite TVB Actor 大灣區最喜愛TVB男主角: Bosco Wong  (黃宗澤) The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

Bosco won this same award in the 2023 Awards Presentation for Mission Run. He is liked among the Greater Bay audience since he has been a part of various Chinese shows, movies and most of the TV series he joins are also available on the Chinese platforms. If TVB wanted Bosco to receive the Best Actor award, we thought it would have been more to give this award to someone else. For example, Bowie Lam in DID.12 gave a wonderful performance, and Him Law was also praised for his leading role in The Fading Gold. We would have liked to see one of them get an award. Nevertheless, it was nice to see Bowie attending the big celebration that night.

Greater Bay Area's Favorite TVB Actress 大灣區最喜愛TVB女主角: Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼)  -The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

Charmaine won this award for the first installment of The Queen of News in for the 2023 Awards Presentation. The character of Man 姐 is a favourite among the Greater Bay Area audience. She continued to carry The Queen of News brand with her shining performance for a second time. Some audience mentioned it was disappointing to not see Selena Lee get anything, despite also showing great acting along with Charmaine.

Best Dressed Male Artiste 最佳衣著男藝人獎: Brian Chu (朱敏瀚)

Best Dressed Female Artiste 最佳衣著女藝人獎: Hera Chan (陳曉華)

It is said that the media reporters voted for Hera and Brian who are rumoured to be dating to get them to have photos and interviews together. Brian's white suit and flowy pants matched the lighter hair colour. Hera wore a revealing, asymmetrical black gown that is long-sleeve on one arm and strapless on the other side. They look fine, although a bit on the plain side. Of the red carpet looks, we found Kelly Cheung to be one of the best dressed of the night.

Most Improved Female Artiste 飛躍進步女藝員: Sophie Yip (葉蒨文) - Come Home Love: Lo and Behold《愛·回家之開心速遞》、OPM《富貴千團》、Death Hint《奪命提示》、A Date with Goddess《女神配對計劃》、Miss Hong Kong 2025《2025香港小姐競選決賽》、Call of Heroes: Road to Victory Party Show《英雄召集：超級電競大派對》

Sophie was definitely the people's choice for Most Improved this year, and she received the award from renowned actresses, Michelle Yim and Adia Chan. Michelle looks great for her age! Sophie has been quite well-liked in general with her role as Candy in Come Home Love since 2017, but she gained but even more popularity after being one of the "goddesses" in A Date with Goddess, where she found her match with GM (Randal) Tsang in the end. In the series, people liked her real personality where she is natural and follows her heart. This show let us understand her more as a person and helped her get a few hosting gigs such as for Miss Hong Kong this year. We appreciate her work ethic and how she always comes prepared for any opportunity. Her speech was well thought out and eloquent. Sophie looked great with a tulle pink dress. On a different note, it was interesting to see that Yuki Law could not make it to the top 10 while Carman Kwan and Stephanie Lee, even though they were all part of the goddess dating show.

 Most Improved Male Artiste 飛躍進步男藝員: James Ng or Kwan Gor (吳業坤) - D.I.D 12《刑偵12》、The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

Kwan Gor had two major roles this year in Chung Shu Kai's productions. Some fans may have been disappointed that GM could not take this win together with Sophie as a couple, but we were not too upset by this. After many years in the entertainment industry, Kwan Gor made several switches between singing and acting and even left TVB for some time before returning again. Though the road has not been easy for him, his efforts were recognized this year with this award. We enjoyed him in two very different roles this year, and we hope he continues honing his acting and singing together. What an expression of shock he wore from the moment his name was announced all the way to backstage photos! We remember his glasses fogging up in the past when he won singing awards and had a similar reaction. Luckily, his glasses did not fog up this time, but this still turned out to be a meme-worthy moment.

Best Variety Show 最佳綜藝節目: Midlife, Sing & Shine 3!《中年好聲音 3》

Chin Ka Lok, Louis Yuen, and Timmy Hung were invited to present the next two awards. They had good chemistry and were pretty funny. For the third year in a row, Midlife, Sing & Shine takes home the title of Best Variety Show. The third season continued to be the talk of the town with consistently high ratings and millions of views on YouTube clips. With the fourth season currently airing, we wonder if it will continue its success and win for a fourth time.

Best Information Programme 最佳資訊及專題節目: The Scoop《東張西望》

No surprise here as The Scoop "scoops" this award home for the second year in a row. It remains the programme with the highest viewership throughout the year.  Calling The Scoop team has now become on of the most a reliable ways for citizens to voice their concerns and share their personal stories. We also liked Ctrl+F The Truth《真相猜·情·尋》, one of the most intriguing documentary series of this year. 

Best Drama Theme Song 最佳電視歌曲: Windy Zhan (詹天文) - "Seeds of Truth" from The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

Windy had two outfits: one white floral dress for the red carpet and this black gown for her performance later in the night. It was fortunate that she had already performed her song beforehand because she seemed nervous giving her acceptance speech. It did not help that Andrew Lam Man Chung was there teasing her which made her even more nervous. Andrew Lam Man Chung was there with three masked contestants of Midlife, Sing & Shine 4!, and if you have seen the previous Awards Presentation where Lam Man Chung was there, you know his section is always one filled with laughter and jokes. 

An interesting trend we are noticing is that English songs are becoming more used as TVB theme songs and have won a few TVB best theme songs already in the past few years. This was a good song, but we wished they played it a bit more throughout The Queen of News 2 because we only recall it being played a few times as a sub-theme song.

Great to see the band, Supper Moment, here for the first time along with Bowie Lam and the D.I.D 12 cast coming together to perform the medley of top 5 theme songs this year.  

Best Male Host 最佳男主持: Bob Lam (林盛斌): CNY Daytime Special《乙巳年吉星高照年初一》 、A Date with Goddess《女神配對計劃》、Game of Scholars《攻你上大學》、 TVB 58th Anniversary Gala Show《萬千星輝賀台慶》

This was an iconic moment of the formal night when Bob slammed the award on the stand, causing it to break into two! Fortunately, he explained later that this award was just a model, and the real one will be sent later. This is absolutely going to be one of those TV moments that will be go down in history. The guest presenters Wong Cho Lam, Jerry Lamb, and King Kong added to the fun with their comedic remarks. We predicted this result because of all the publicity and noise A Date with Goddess made during its run.

Best Female Host 最佳女主持: Stephanie Che (車婉婉): Midlife, Sing & Shine 3!《中年好聲音 3》、Midlife, Sing & Shine 4!《中年好聲音 4》

Stephanie gave a teary speech when she accepted this award for the first time. She has been praised for her professional hosting in the Midlife Singing competition. Even though it may be less difficult than some other hosts who have to go travel and do research to provide informative programmes, Stephanie uses her endearing personality to get to know each and every contestant on the show. Every season of the show can span half a year, so it shows commitment and dedication to the job. Stephanie was also a host of some other shows like the Anniversary Gala this year, but we are not sure why it was not officially listed when  the Top 5 nominees were listed.

TVB Professionalism Award 專業精神獎: 張濟仁 - Type Designer (字體設計師) 

Highly deserved award! Over the 50 plus years that 張濟仁 has been practicing his art, he is a hidden hero who designed each of the different TVB program and show logos for over 30 years in this company itself. He has creatively developed over 10, 000 unique titles. If it had not been for this award, we might not have stopped to think about who was creating these beautiful fonts for each different shows using traditional calligraphy as well as blending it with technology. We are so glad he has been celebrated here for his service. May his artwork continue to be appreciated by audiences.

Taking a break in awards, the next part was of the show is the tribute dedicated to those of the entertainment industry who have passed away this year. 

This part was led by Wayne Lai's narration, paired with the singing of students from The Sound of Talents. It was a very emotional part of the night as many great stars and production crew members have left, and we especially liked the use of projections all around the walls of the whole room.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role 最佳男配角: Matthew Ho (何廣沛) - The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

Resuming the awards presentation, Law Kar-ying came out with Kalok Chow with some light banter. This was another expected win after seeing Venus win for the Best Supporting Actress. We suspected it would also be another award for The Queen of News 2 and likely Matthew for similar reasons that Venus won. We personally enjoyed Eric Tang's role more, but he already won this award a few years ago, so he would probably not get it. We were quite surprised, however, to see that Tsui Wing was not in the Top 5 nomination list because he was definitely one of our top picks this year with a memorable role in The Fading Gold. With Matthew getting Most Improved before and now Best Supporting Actor, the next step for him would naturally be to get one of the leading actor awards. Let's see what types of roles he will get in the future that will bring him to the next level.

Best Actress in a Leading Role 最佳女主角: Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) -  The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

Breaking her own record set in the TVB 2023 Awards Presentation, Charmaine secures Best Actress one more time, making her the very first actress in the history of TVB to win this title four times. Former TVB stars, Frankie Lam and Kenix Kwok show up on this stage the first time together to present the grand award to Charmaine. We were not at all surprised by the result, but she looked genuinely surprised and emotional when she got up on stage again. She was truly the queen of this memorable night. This time around, Charmaine's challenge in this role was to she give Man 姐's character more depth because in season 1, she has already established her strength. In season 2, the audience gets to experience more of her soft side as she exposes her weaknesses and she has more highs and lows. It is always a joy to see her onscreen, and we know for certain the audience cannot wait for the new legal drama she is a part of. We do think that it's unfortunate that Selena was not awarded for either season of the drama, simply because her role was heavier than that of a supporting actress, but TVB was not going give her any leading actress award with Charmaine's presence. With Jessica not attending the event, it became quite clear who the Best Actress was going to be as soon as Charmaine walked down the red carpet. We also wanted to mention that she looks beautiful in an elegant dress that highlights her slim figure. An undeniably well deserved award without much contention. Congratulations on this history making moment.

Best Actor in a Leading Role 最佳男主角: Bosco Wong  (黃宗澤) The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

When Michael Miu walked out with Wayne Lai as the guest presenters, it was a big giveaway who was going to be Best Actor because of how close Michael is with Bosco in real life. Bosco was announced double TV king for the night. Once again, Bosco might not have been our top pick, but he appears to have good relations with Catherine Tsang and Virginia Lok, who have the power to decide the results of these awards. Bosco was a decent addition to the sequel to The Queen of News as the cunning and manipulative Kingston, but we thought his character lacked the dynamics or a strong back story that would make the character more interesting. We mostly remember him drinking the milk in the series for product placement. For this reason, we would prefer Bowie or Him winning at least an award such as the Greater Bay Area Best Actor. That being said, many people said they liked seeing Bosco in an antagonist role as compared to when he plays the good character. He was emotional when he went up and definitely a rare sight to see him tearing up. It is still surprising that Bosco has never gotten this award after so many TVB series he has been a part of. We look forward to seeing more complex roles for him in the future, and hopefully he can take some other roles where he does not have to be a cop or ICAC investigator. After receiving this prestigous title, Bosco and Charmaine are both the double Best Actor and Actress winners of the night.

Best Drama Series 最佳劇集: The Queen of News 2《新聞女王2》

This biggest award of the night goes to The Queen of News 2 as expected. The cast and production crew should celebrate this milestone because it is not easy feat to create a sequel just as good as the first installment. They were able to not only do that, but incorporate new elements that aligned with current  phenomena and events in society. For example, bringing out interesting topics regarding the use of AI in news and media such as online platforms create further resonance with audience who are seeing these changes in the way news is gathered, curated, reported, and received by the public. Because of the thoughtful script, professional acting, and interesting themes, audiences from around the world continued to express their support and excitement for the series, giving high ratings and viewership. We appreciate how Selena Lee and Mimi Kung are given an opportunity to share their sentiments in this section. The Queen of News 2 became the biggest winner of the night, sweeping the majority of the awards this year.

Legendary and Lifetime Achievement Award 萬千光輝榮譽傳奇大獎: Eric Tsang (曾志偉)

At the end of the night, the show is running overtime, but there is one more most important award to give out. This is the first time the award of this title is given out at TVB, and it is one of the highest honours of this TV station. Exectuvie Chariman of TVB, Thomas Hui To gave a speech to introduce the recipient of prestigous award. Then, Alan Tam brings the award to his good friend, Eric. As previously rumoured, at this time Eric announces his resignation from his position as TVB's deputy general manager. He believes that after 5 years of his service, he can entrust this role to others to continue his efforts in making TVB's programmes and productions of a higher quality.  To the HK audience, Eric will be remembered for the joy he brought in many homes whether it is through gameshows, films, and television roles. From onscreen to working as an executive at TVB, he has devoted most of his life to the HK entertainment industry.
