CeeJay's Update About Our Break
Hey!
We thought we would do a post kinda touching base with everyone about where we were with the blog. We're sorry that we haven't really been able to write too much lately. There's a bunch of reasons for that and first off, we have been watching a limited amount of TVB dramas and listening to less Cantopop so it's been hard to write any reviews. Secondly, there's been a lot going on for the both of us in our own lives that have been taking away time from the blog.
We've really noticed a decline in the quality of the dramas that TVB produces that's been encouraging us to reach out to other TV shows altogether. The cast is old, the sets are quite fake, the plots are filled with inconsistencies and we have lost interest in the endless sequels and spin-offs that they come out with.
Having said that, Daddy Cool has been a surprise for us especially with the fresh face of Carlos Chan. It was refreshing to see Wayne in his role being cheap and manipulative, same goes for John Chiang who plays his father. Carlos was spot-on in his role as Wayne's grandfather and his mannerisms were natural and funny. However because his character was so well-played, we felt a disconnect with Joel Chan's character who was also from the same time period. He talked like a present-day Hong Konger and we felt like it would've been better if he had faltered sometimes. We thought the story was quite well written with all the twists that came out at the end. All the other dramas that aired this year weren't that memorable and we probably didn't watch them in full either.
We will be coming out with a Pick of the Month soon talking about songs lately. There seems to be a slowing of songs coming out lately besides the usual theme songs for TVB. These days it's so easy to access music online, we've been listening to a lot of other genres from a variety of singers and groups. The variety for cantopop is limited and the singers are always the same. We also don't find that many of the singers have strong live vocals and rely a lot on studio editing.
We've also found with the decrease in people watching TVB, there's less talk about it too in the blogging scene too. Many content creators have stopped posting stuff here and it's hard to keep up with it when there's nobody else doing it unfortunately. We would like to continue discussing as long as there's still an audience.
So that's our little update! See you soon!

Thanks for the update CeeJay! As a fellow blogger, I agree with every single thing you said, especially the piece about life getting in the way and also overall, there is just little motivation to keep up with blogging consistently anymore (though in my case, it's not just TVB, but the entire HK entertainment scene in general). I'm still watching stuff (though very little TVB-related stuff -- the only current TVB series I've watched is Daddy Cool -- also because of Carlos Chan...) and I've continued to keep up with HK entertainment news as usual, but I feel less inclined to write / blog about it nowadays -- I feel like I would rather spend the precious little time I have between life and work obligations doing things that actually matter to me. Like you guys, I'll still continue to post when I feel the urge to, but it will definitely be less frequently than before.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, wanted to take a moment to say thanks for all the insightful posts you've done thus far. It's true that there are very few content creators out there nowadays that still talk about HK entertainment stuff and as a long-time industry-watcher, part of me feels sad that it has come to this, but the other more rational part knows that it is an inevitable reality that we can do nothing about. With all that said, I will still be around, just more of a "silent reader" type, only posting when I feel like I have something important to say.
Hi llwy12,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! Your support means a lot to us.
We hope that in the summer, we will have time to do a bit more watching and writing (since we haven't done a drama review in so long), but we'll see how that goes. Your HK entertainment updates are always so detailed, so we hope to see you continuing that as well!
See you around in the blogging world!
